The medieval castle

The medievial castle virtual environment can be used to assess allocentric spatial recognition memory as previously described by King et al. (2002, Hippocampus 12, 811-820). Participants are tested for object location memory in two different conditions, one with no shift between study and test, and one in which various shifts in viewpoint are introduced. During testing, the environment and its placemarkers used for stimulus presentations (images of various objects or animals) are viewed from atop the stone wall of the castle. Participants have to choose the image that was in the same location as during the study phase.
